I support passage of the American Anti-Corruption Act -- model legislation designed as a standard for action to blunt the corrupting effect of political contributions at the the local, state and federal level.

I believe lobbying and ethics laws must be reformed; political fundraising must be transparent and donors must be publicly disclosed; and a system of citizen-funded elections must be installed.

I endorse all efforts to reverse the Supreme Court's decisions in the Citizens United and McCutcheon cases, and pledge to do all I can as a citizen to return control of my government to the hands of The People.

The Modern Whig Institute does not accept donations from corporations, unions, or special interest groups.

We are funded directly by volunteers and grassroots supporters. Please consider a small contribution today!

Money is fungible, so your efforts are likely to amount to little more than sdpinning wheels. In the menatime, Dems should adopt progrssive membership dues. And all the SCOTUS has so far allowed ( & legitamtely so) is the NYC system. However, the real solution is Ranked Ballot: Fulfilled Democracy for All the World, Instantly & Practicably (a How To).(Ranked Ballot, plus “Organized Communications” gives us practicable instant true Democracy for the world.) With dozens of candidates in the race, I am still without a candidate, much less a party . Ranked Ballot, RB, is to the corrupting, unsustainable, horse & buggy two-party system as shopping at the Mall of America is to shopping in Soviet Russia. Because this simple yet transformative (pointed, pertinent & practicable) reform gives an equal chance to all combinations of programs {not just parties} it is the only thing simultaneously most just & most free. Because of this shining light in the eyes of the people of the world & because it always picks the one most in the middle, RB is more top dead center counter-extremist than all the many recent retrenchments combined (once word got out). The “additive” form of RB is voters ranking candidates in order of preference. Counting The first choces, & then, if no one has 50%, adding in the next choices, & so on, ‘til someone finally does. it wouldn’t really change the political climate of any area, but rather just give its inhabitants more subtlety, adaptivity, light-footedness, objectivity, nuance & perfect reflection of their real desires. Meanwhile alternative viewpoints will finally have A REAL CHAnce to sway the mass in the direction of whatever is good in what they have to say. RB, plus the “instant” part, running on the single issue of RB, promising a citizens’ advisory board, based on Organized Communications, “OC”, randomly assigned discussion groups electing reps to higher & higher levels, by means of RB, ‘til one small group, most exactly in the middle, remains, will allow everything from sharing the work (the workweek attached to the unemployment rate) so as end both foot dragging & too big to fail all the way to replacing public education with having to prove you can read to vote (now that learning is universally recognized). For those with fear of secret code & remote control of voting machines, the larger the discussion groups, the fewer the levels needed. RB will give us not only True Democracy, but also All Powers to Their Lowest Appropriate Level, An Ecological Politics, A PERFECT MARRIAGE OF Rich & Poor, Left & Right, FREEDOM & JUSTICE, Tradition & Modernity, Young & Old, Red, Black & White, Woman & Man & Palestinian & Jew, A Head for the Headless (tech) Beast, A Middle Way & even a Real Solution for Bleeding Syria, Ukraine, Central African Republic or wherever’s next. RB will even make it possible to GIVe THE US IMMIGRATION QUOTA OF ANY NATION THAT DOESN’T (in word & in deed) RECOGNISE THE right of the Jews to keep the property they purchased when they returned to ISRAEL to them, & the immigration quota of any nation that doesn’t treat its women as perfect equals, to their women only. It will give the Arabs a means to choose their leaders without having to rely on men of violence. What with the many great tasks before us, who would not want to have the great efficiency of RB? Whosoever would not, must be suspect of self-seeking & not being concerned with the general welfare at all.
By its mere shining example RB will win the hearts & minds of all mankind. But the world is still just on the edge of a whirlpool it has only begun to climb out of, & it is not yet clear whether we will be falling back in, to kill, torture & exploit each other to the end of time, not having a second perfectly sized & timed New World to save us again, be that descent by overpopulation or other profligacy, high-tech dictatorship, literalist, thermidorian or gangsterist contretemps, or economic, environmental or tectonic collapse. RB will solve the unsustainability of both of the democracist systems, whether king-of-the-hill presidential or biggest-gang-on-the-block proportional, a good source of all the world’s problems. RB will also give democratic-centralist regimes the means to avoid adventurism. It will put an end to war & all other forms of violence, past or present, retrieving thereby all the excess currently being wasted on dead-end non-productive military uses. It will give us (virtually) instant TRUE democracy, for the entire world, no matter what ladders are pulled up behind. Let everyone supporting RB run on the single issue, promising a citizens’ advisory board, based on Organized Communications & try to get on the ballot, asking those who sign to petition for them as well.

[With dozens of candidates in the race, I am not only without one but also a party: Economically: conservatively pluralist, externally: cautiously pro-actively democracist/anti-extremist/ anti-literalist (in ALL its three manifestations), socially: libertarian, anti-literalist (in ALL its three manifestations) plus for making up for shock therapies, such as High tech corn, while against throwing the doors wide open (& for a strong defense for the short time it will be needed once there’s Ranked ballot), kind of thing.]

The one thing I disagree with about the Anti-Corruption Act is citizen funding. Citizen funding puts the money under control of politicians and I’m adamantly against that for obvious reasons.

I’m toying with the idea that no organizations may contribute to campaigns, only individuals because only individuals can vote. Maybe we could put some limit on individual contributions so billionaires like George Soros or the Koch brothers can’t buy elections or thwart the will of the people, but I would make it a high limit compared to today’s limits.
